I'm sure what you did was worth every second of the work, and I sorta understand the general idea. Is this something that is applicable to the general community as settings in the material room or is it more esoteric than that? It appears you have accomplished the "limb effect" shown here in side view (there is a very slight banding visible, but I think that's probably from the jpg compression algorithm). Would be interesting to see a crater displacement map applied to this. Hope you had rectilinear dreams...!!
