Description

The wind had subsided a little with the coming of the light but the coldness of the mid January morning could still be felt right through the windows. The caulking was ancient and peeling, whole chunks had fallen off into the snow piled up below. The light was bright, our eyes squinting and trying hard to focus in the unaccustomed brilliance. It had been many days since the sun had been shining, the grayness of the past days still lingered in our souls as well as in our vision. I finally looked at the shelf above the table, accidentally seeing them for the first time. They were lined up and clean now, a far cry from what they looked like when we found them, buried and dirty, last fall. Out behind the barn, where workmen and housewives had dumped them, we had uncovered them, the vestiges of the past, now merely decorations.

your foto brings to mind an old lady in an episode of Gunsmoke that collected bottles on the praire, a real cagey old lady. your writings are wonderful. I wish I had some of your imagination. I got passed up when I was kid, because we was so poor we could not even pay attention. what a story!! by me not yours.yours is interesting

You know Jack, I had a collection very much like this years ago. Some had been in the sun so long they had a myriad of rainbow colors burned into them, they were very beautiful. But, as life would have it, I lost every songle one in a house fire back in 74. Thanks for the memory. Love the shot!!V

Fantastic Jack. And these are not mere decorations, but frozen time. Here, you don't have to look for a message in a bottle, the bottle IS the message. A glorious still-life ... V
