Description

Floor 13 -------- Created : April 2003 Created with: - BRYCE v5.01 (rendered in) ========================== About: ------ This image came about simply from me playing around with the free skyscraper model I downloaded from Marlin Studios one night. I was playing around trying out different camera angles and I wondered what it would actually be like to be INSIDE the skyscraper model.....so I zoomed in. - Lo and behold there were really floors inside the model. :-) So I found a nice camera angle then added in a strong spherical light outside.... I instantly liked the shadows of it onto the floor of this building. - (I gave the windows of this floor a BRYCE glass MAT.) I created this image in April 2003 but over a couple of days thereafter coming on and off into this project and trialling new things, I kept ending up going way back to the very first version I made. I tried out lots of things that made the scene more realistic but it took away from what first attracted me to the image, and that was the stark simplicity of it and the way the shadows fell. - I tried soft shadows and whilst it looked okay, the feeling I had with the first version just wasn't there. So.....the colours have been kept very simple because that's how it all started and I liked it that way. - The image goes well as a desktop wallpaper. -- Flashforward to January 2005 when I was thinking about posting this up: I decided to play around with the final mage in Photoshop to see what I could do with it but I inevitably kept coming back to this original version that I much prefer! :-) Not a great or fantastic image, nor a detailed one. It's just one that I personally like. A touch mysterious...... Welcome to floor 13.... Now... this is ART. I agree with everything you said, and I know the feeling. So often it is that early concept that has the most emotion and the best pristine beauty (like this). It is a matter of artistic experience to know when to STOP working on an image, when to say it is complete. You have done very nicely with this one.

Aye, very stark and interesting. Sometimes the straight renders simply are the most potent!

All of your hard work has certainly paid off. This image is wonderful and crisp. The shadows and depth are outstanding. Excellent work!
