Description

Original models created in Ray Dream Studio 5. Lighting effects, Skinning and texturing done in Carrara 1.1, Final Render done in Carrara 1.1 This is the Imperial Dominion Gigastar Class SuperDreadnought "Relannea" being surrounded by 8 of her Sparrow Class Corvette Escort Craft. many enemy craft make the mistake of directly confronting the Gigastar and ignoring the Sparrows. They soon find out that the Sparrows are just as formidable despite their much smaller size. All ships are form a book I am writing.

YIm actually pretty happy with how this onee out, but with all the lighting sources, semi transparent objects and reflection surfaces, it took over 6 days to render at 1600x1280 300dpi.

Overall, great modelling, and good composition. The escort craft should not be exactly the same as the giant ship scaled down. Think of Andromeda, where the slipfighters resemble the Andromeda, but are also readily identifiable as different. The giant ship will look bigger if taken from 'below'. And don't be afraid to shoot a ship like that from the 'dark' side. The 'gigastar' nose looks like it has a cockpit, which gives the impression it's only the size of a large plane. Perhaps tiny windows or other small features would help here - at least lose the reflective panel that gves the impression of a window. It would help if some of the smaller 'sparrows' actually went in front of the gigastar, to avoid the notion that they're the same ship type, just farther away. I hope this helps.

If you take a close up look at the Sparrow escorts you will notice there are some major differences, for one the escorts have two smaller tail fin mounted cannon as opposed to the Gigastar which has a single central gun pylon mounted. Also the launching tiers on the gigastar do not exist on the sparrow. Additionally the sparrow wing design is different and the sparrows have 3 guns at the end of each wing tip. Due to the nature of their propulsion systems all of the Dominions designs share a basic configuration called flowlining and thusly their hulls are similar in design. This is similar to the St Trek warp engine hull design similarities. I also have a detailed render of the sparrow that you mght like to look at to see the differneces. The hulls are constructed or rather generated from a hybrid crystalline/metallic substance which is appropriately named "MetaCrystal" this is then coated with a substance called Armorine which provides armor protection and gives the hull its trademark reflective sheen. Due to the size of these vessels, over 100 miles in length, they are not normally adorned with actual markings.

I just used the simple light sphere effect and gave it a very low intensity, along with a glow.
