Description

This is a picture of a cross from the virtually unknown Avian sect of Christianity. They focus on the process of a dove or Angel guiding a soul to Heaven. I've always found the cross to be a powerful symbol. It is a little odd that the major symbol of the religion was the means for Christ's execution, but I realize that now the meaning of the cross is conversion and transcendence. Did you ever stop to think that if Jesus, instead of being crucified, had been hung, that nowdays at the front of churches there would be a gallows and millions of people would be wearing little nooses on their bodies? Strange but true. (And I mean no disrespect.) The Rorschach questions are; Do all the major religions point toward the same spiritual truth in the language that the founder came up with at the time, or is one religion true and the others askew? If the original founder of a religion was a radically committed seeker of truth with an advanced level of spiritual realization, are the words and metaphors that they came up with to convey their experience likely to be misinterpreted by people and organizations that have not yet reached the level of the founder? If the different religions point toward the same spiritual truth, should the religions try to create a unifying, non-exclusionary language to help foster greater harmony in the world? Is belief in doctrine a sufficient substitute for attempting to verify the truth through personal experience?

Beautiful creation! The image floats in a peaceful way and makes me imagine heaven or tranquility. I'd like to ride with the angels on the magnificent colors.

This one is both lovely and quite amazing. If you look carefully you can see faces integrated into the arms of the cross. Rather symbolic. Also love your discussions and questions, not easily answered.
