Description

A world renowned natural masterpiece, the silversword, is unique to Maui. Another subspecies, a federally listed endangered species, occurs on the Big Island. Its center of abundance is Haleakala National Park. Silverswords have evolved specialized adaptations to high elevation deserts, for example, special water-retaining leaves containing an aloe-like gel, dense layers of white hairs reflecting away harmful radiation, and a miraculous ability for their tiny seeds to germinate in barren volcanic cinders where temperatures may reach 140 degrees.

Wow, looks like you and sharky are on the same wavelength today. Beautiful close-up and informative text. Can you use it like aloe? I know, you aren't supposed to touch them.
