Description
Ultrafractal 3.02 - 168 layers (ouch! lol)
I was in the middle of changing direction for a bit into more "fractal" looking images when this one just grabbed me by the short hairs for 4 days and "happened". I rarely start anything with an idea where it's going so they just end up where they drag me. :?)
This one has a sorta Jules Verne or a Pre-Cambrian primordial life vibe. I recently read a book named "Rare Earth" written by an astrophysicist and a biochemist(?) that made a really strong argument for the theory that, though rudimentary life like bacteria and the like are surely common in the universe/galaxy - due to the amazing luck (or divine design) involved in life surviving 10 global mass extinctions and that the Earth is situated smack in the calmest region between spiral arms in the Milky Way, the occurance of higher lifeforms like animals and people on other planets is most likely extremely rare. Planets in denser areas of our galaxy get hammered with the energy of nearby supernovae way too often that would kill all life. (remember the supernova in the late 90's/early 00's that knocked out a number of satellites? It was 20,000 lightyears away) Higher life on our own planet has survived very narrowly in the last 4 billion years. Kinda gets you thinking in a new way how precious and rare humanity is and the need for us to somehow find better ways to get along as a species - especially in light of the recent tsunami tragedy.
Thanks for stopping by and for the wonderful encouragement you've given me on my previous stuff! (sorry for the dry "science class" above - lol)

Perfect, including the pale violet color of the spheres (sorry, Andreas). That color makes the spheres look more metallic, sets them apart from the rest of the underwater scene. Standing ovation on this one, Rick, thanks for sharing :)

Ahh..the long awaited next installment of visual exstacy! I swear, Rick, I can't even fathom (no pun intended) 143 layers as my deepest was a meager 7. This image is spectacularly colored and displayed. When I see your work, I soak it in for a good, long while! The fractal runs strong in you...=)

Ah yeah. What can I say that has not been said. Thanks for sharing.

Truely beautiful work. And the lesson is good, too. Thank you for both.

As usual, words fail me. Love the science talk (but then, I'm a scientist) LOL Beautiful!

This is a terrific image. I like the color of the spheres just fine. What I don't like are the bright green leaves on the foreground. I think they are too big and cover too much of the wonderful background.

Awesome work Rick and a wonderful undersea image, approx 100 more layers than I'd ever use though lol ;) I admire you're attention to detail. Those spheres are perfect, the colouring is that of black pearls.

Spectacular image Rick! Excellent commentary as well! It does give one much to consider! One thing that makes the human species unique is hope. I think this image displays a sense of that hope amid the tragedy & beauty of the sea.

Superb underwater fantasia, Rick. It's a wonderous, life-filled scene through the viewing portal of the "Nautilus". VOTE

A wondrous image. Full of life and beauty. The amount of layers makes me dizzy just thinking about that many. Guess that explains the great gulf between fractal artists (like you and a couple others) and the rest of us. ;)))

Man oh man that is just beautiful. Makes me want to visit the ocean. That place is so peaceful and so abundant with beautiful and exotic life. This image is a fine representation of it. Masterfully done.

it always amazes me where the fractal program drags you, mostly beneath the ewaters of imagination...lol master of a colorful kind and thank you for sharimg your art, i am inspired by them

At my second glance I see that my first comment was too strict. I still do not like the pale violet, but the overall impression of the underwater scene is great nevertheless. And I still admire your abilities :-)

My head is spinning...masterful image! The science lesson is not at all dry, it compliments the image in an intriguing manner. Can you tell us the name of the person who wrote that book you mentioned? Seems very interesting to me!
