Description
Hey everyone. This is my first attempt at compositing a CG creature onto a real photo. Any comments/pointers would be great! Thanks to Mad Dog for the model. The dragon textures, flame effects, and photo (my front yard) are all mine. Done in Lightwave with use of Adobe After Effects for the flames. May the Force be with you!

looks really good, coolflamer there

The dragon's shadow is way too hard edged and the lighting on the dragon doesn't match your front yard. Also I'd think the flame would illuminate the trees behind it. My 2 cents. -Vyrias.

Anyone know how i can make the shadow softer?

Very cool flame effects, and nice to see you trying out compositing :o) A couple of things to think about: (1) Use an Area light for better quality lighting and softer shadows. (2) Your background image would have highlights from your excellent flame. (3) Add a spotlight near the grass level, pointing up towards to dragon frontside, a give it the same colour as the flame and use an intensity of 120-180% (remember to turn the spotlights shadow off, if you do use it) (4) You should write a mini tutorial on how to create flames, as you are great at it!
