I thought I had lost this long ago. Today, I found the scene files and texture maps on an old floppy. It started as a test of a new (in 1991) lathing utility. The first version was rendered with DKBTrace on a 7.54Mhz XT class box with a 8088 processor. With that platform rendering an earlier version of this work at the full screen resolution of 320x200, it took over a month of processor time. By the time of this version was created, I had translated the scene file from DKB into POV version 1 then into the POV version 2 scene file language. Each version of the work took advantage of the capabilities of the software and hardware of their time. This version was rendered at the resolution of 640x480 and took only a little over one week and one day of processer time using the hardware that I was using at that time. Today, rendering at the resolutions of 1024x768 with my current system, took less that one and a half hours of processor time. This was not the final version of this work. The final version of this work in which my original vision for it was at last realized, is lost. Today, I tried rendering it on the current version of POV-Ray; however, it would not accept the older version of the language even when I told POV-Ray to use the older syntax. When the scene file was modified just enough to be acceptable by the current version of POV-Ray, it failed to generate an image. Using the current version of the mega patched version of POV, did produce an image, but not an acceptable one. I could not use any existing binary copy of POV-Ray 2.2, because, they are not compatible with any operating system that I am now using. There was nothing left to do but to get the source code for the 2.2 version of POV and compile it. After making just a few modifications needed to compile it with the current version of the C compiler that I have installed on my system and all was ready to go. Other than signing the image and converting it from a targa into a peg, I did no post work. Had I started to do post work on the image, one step would lead to the next, little by little the style and spirit of the artform of the early raytracing would be lost from the image. To offer a proper representation of the artwork of those day, I thought it was better to present it today as it would have been presented back then. Pangor

A great save. You have to have a bit of history to see where one is going. Great job.

Great piece of modelling. My first attempts were with Bryce - and the Mac (1997) running all night rendering the image.
