Description

ALONE From childhood's hour I have not been As others were; I have not seen As others saw; I could not bring My passions from a common spring. From the same source I have not taken My sorrow; I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone; And all I loved, I loved alone. Then- in my childhood, in the dawn Of a most stormy life- was drawn From every depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still: From the torrent, or the fountain, From the red cliff of the mountain, From the sun that round me rolled In its autumn tint of gold, From the lightning in the sky As it passed me flying by, From the thunder and the storm, And the cloud that took the form (When the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view. Written by Poe in youth. I am not satisfied with how the photo of this drawing turned out. It's too bad I don't have a bigger scanner...this doesn't do the original much justice.

You've decided to make quite a few changes to this portrait, then. The old version is much less sinister and has less Hitler-like moustache :D I like both, even though the older one seems to be better lit - I'm sure it's the matter of shoting the drawing... Anyway, your drawing skills are unquestionable :)) Much like your good looks :D

Oh geez, I am embarassed of the old version....I will have to erase it...Poe looks all googly-eyed...what a crappy drawing that was...I see that now!

I was just thinking that this poem is very prophetic considering the tragic circumstances surrounding Poe's relatively short life...a case of self-fulfilling prophesy perhaps?

Just admire your drawing skills! Was never able to do that! Haven't seen the previous upload, seems you wasn't satisfied with it... this one looks fantastic! And his poem to go with fits perfectly to his expression!

I love how expressive this is--it's not just a recognizable portrait, you have subtly changed it to emphasize the tragedy of Poe's life, just wonderful!!

I like this one more, somehow...maybe Niu is right when she say something about a better lighting in the old one, but from my point of view poe doesn't ned a great light to be presented!!!! he really doesn't want light! :) Great skill, Mister Matt! :) [I'm so lame at hand drawing, especially when it comes of portraits!]

I've no idea how the original drawing looks but this seems like it's been drawn on grey papar which is neat. A great tribute to one of my fave writers!
