Hi ~ my name is Gordon Arnold. I am originally from Croydon, 10 miles south of London, but have lived in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in the north-east of England for over thirty years.BIOThis photo of me was taken by my sister Wendy, aka Gabrielsdream, in September 2005 at the Alnwick Garden in Northumberland.
I've been taking photos since I was about nine years old, I don't specialise, it's just whatever appeals to me at the time! Since going digital, I have discovered the possibilities this offers, and am learning all the time.
My interests apart from photography are music, theatre, art, architecture and museums, travelling and always combined with food, glorious food!
Because I suffer from a rare incurable bone marrow cancer, and have just started a fifth course of very punishing chemotherapy, involving periods of hospitalisation, I am not around on Renderosity much at the moment.
Thank you for viewing.
~Gordon~

Very nice capture of an elegant creature! They are so serene when gliding across a mirrored lake surface--and fierce fighters if you happen too close to their young!!

I love the subtle pink colours in the swan's neck, and I love the way you have captured the loose feathers in the air caused by his thorough preening(must be male). In fact this is a bit too good to be natural - you obviously paid him to pose. x

Beautiful swan! Excellent close-up !

A lovely capture of a bird we are lucky is not extinct, since many years ago, it was hunted as a luxury food! Now a protected bird, all mute swans in the UK are owned by the Crown, though our Queen only exercises her prerogative right to them on the River Thames. It is quite amazing to see and hear a swan flying, since they can reach speeds of 50-55 mph! They need at least 30 yards to become airborne and the same again to reach a safe height to clear surrounding obstructions such as houses. Elegant in flight too, they can have a wingspan of 8-9 feet!
