Description

An image I took a few years back. I dug out the negative and tried again using a scanner and photoshop. Mamiya C330 with Tri-X. Thanks for the great comments on previous images.

This is from a 35 mm or larger format b/w negative film..? If so, this is a very successful scan, and also very successful post-work..! I unfortunately cannot achieve such clear and flawless scans out of negatives. Any special detail about the scanning phase..? The photo is beautiful...

Neg size was 2 1/4. I made three scans. One each for midtone, shadow, and highlight. I then put them on separate photoshop layers and masked area to get more detail in the shadow and highlight. Unsharp masking was also used. The scanner was a desktop linocolor saphir that we have at work.

Thank you for describing the scanning technique. I'm sure Alpha would be interested in posting a tutorial.
