Yesterday I promised to show you the problem with the wind. Here it comes. It's still more than 2 hours to the peak. And, no, you can't see it here. It is far, far behind the ridge in the background. But what you can see is the storm, blustering over the ridge (well, there will be better views in the upcoming postings). The wind carries over the loose snow and drops it to the lee side of the mountain, where the shroud of snow becomes thicker and thicker. Unfortunately it is hard to guess this phenomenon, which has to be blamed for the most dangerous kind of avalanches. Look at the ridge in the background. It is our point of return. Olympus C860L.
