Description

On January 24 1544 The Dutch mathematician and astronomer "Reinerus Gemma-Frisius", displayed a solar eclipse using the "camera obscura". He put a hole in one wall of a pavilion, and was able to view the solar eclipse upside down on the opposite wall. He published the first illustration of the "camera obscura" in 1545. Several astronomers made use of this device in the early part of the 16th century to study the activity of sunspots.
