Description

The future of our space exploration seems to be heading in a commercial, as well as scientific, direction. In a future where manned ships will have the power to travel well throughout the galaxy and possibly beyond, these space travelers would find themselves in somewhat the same situations as ancient sea mariners- utlilizing all available technologies for guidance through the vast emptiness between systems. Here we see a "Lightship" on the galactic boundary- one of many- emmiting visible and nonvisible energy, both for light sail equipped vessels and acting as an old fashioned lighthouse of sorts to all others, since its quasi-fusion "furnace" can be seen and detected by radio as well. Here, two re-supply ships, the 305 and 306 of the United Astro Cargo company, are off-loading supplies for the crew of the lightship. I was playing with boolean modeling, and when I put these shapes together, it reminded me of building with an erector set. All objects and final render in Bryce 5; Glitterato in Photo Shop for the star field/ background. Enjoy you week, and leave a comment if you like.

Love this Sci-Fi piece! A completely believable image explaination, as well. When does the book come out? Is that Dr. Spock in the cockpit of that cargo ship?....naww....?
