Description

An image I have been working for quite a time. Snow was a pain, and I worked a lot on it having a few photographs of Svalbard Islands. One expects to see lots of white snow everywhere. Actually, when you look at the photographs you notice that shadows, ice, dirt do a lot of work, and I couldn't actually count less that a dozen different "snows". A bit of folklore: did you know that the Sami people (the inhabitants of Lapland, northern Europe) have more than *one hundred* different words to name say "snow", describing for example the quantity, quality, surface, easiness of traveling on the snow, icyness, size of flakes, and so on... Thanks for your kind viewing and comments!

Excellent terrain, chilly mood and pov; great surface too; interesting streaky clouds!

This is a really beautiful view. Be assured that all the time you spent on the snow was worth it :)

You are right about snow textures - they are not naturally smooth. Atmo also coveys coldness. Very "cool" terrain - gotta be WM...

I did know that and you image is a good illustration of it. It looks like you put a lot of time into this image, the terrain (and snow) is fantastic!!! I love all that detail! re: FabioNemo--while an amazing render...I would never say it is FAR better than nature herself.
