Description

The next day: Raining cats and dogs! So I decided to spend the bad day in the port Oban, a nice little town. I was surprised to discover a sea-dog (lion?), begging near the fisher boats. Because of the bad weather I left my camera in my car! While running back to get it the sea-dog was gone! ;o( The roman building on the hill: McCaig's Tower, the Colosseum-like structure overlooking Oban bay was the dream of philanthropic banker John Stuart McCaig. The tower is nearly one hundred years old, and offers tangible evidence of Oban's fine Victorian past. Thanks for your visit and all comments I be curious to read! ;o)))

Hey, our uploads are next to each other today Rita! ;o) I've always wanted to visti Oban, and now, thanks to you, I have! Great photo of the port, I think you have captured the rain that is prevalent in this part of the country very well here...I love that sky. Great detail in the town buildings...what is that up on the hill, it looks Roman?

Aha, you've finally run into Scotland's typical weather; rainy, overcast, cold and damp, in a word "dreich" as we Scots say. Lovely postcard of Oban, Rita. Btw the circular structure on top of the hill is McCaig's Tower, more usually and descriptively called McCaig's Folly. This is the Colosseum lookalike that stands above the town and features in many of the postcards of Oban. The Tower was built by a local banker, unsurprisingly called McCaig, in 1897. The aim was to provide work for local stonemasons and provide a lasting monument to his family. The original intention was to complete it with a large tower placed in the middle, but this, like the intended statues of McCaig's family, never materialised.

I assume you're talking about a sea-lion. If you go to San francisco one day, you'll be delighted. They are everywhere!

Ja, man soll nie die Cam im Auto lassen wink Der kleine Hafen sieht etwas verschlafen aus... aber wahrscheinlich nur wegen des Regens! Sehr sch aufgenommen, Rita!

This is Oban on a good day; if anyone says "I have been to Oban and it was raining" you know they have really been there. Excellent shot and mood.
