Description
The Dark Hours

The clock chimes as I open my eyes and see
A sea of darkness in which I'm adrift.
I can see no light to which I can flee.
I can only feel the darkness beneath me shift.
The pain comes in waves, stabbing at my heart,
Forcing me into the rolling tides of black,
Leaving me helpless as my soul is ripped apart,
And my strength and will slowly begin to crack.
I still can breathe, yet I gasp for breath
As my mind fights against terrors unseen,
Becoming frantic as I feel the icy chill of death
And cursing my senses that are suddenly so keen.
Is this reality or something less cruel?
Am I nothing but a pawn of fate?
Destined to meet pain in an endless duel,
Doomed never to leave this nightmarish state.
Again I open my eyes, and this time
As reality greets me, I find upon me no mark.
Yet the agony will not disappear but only climb,
And I find myself longing again for the dark.
