Description
Thanks again for the great comments on my Hibiscus Macro series. I'll post more if I get some good shots. Click HERE to view yesterday's image, "Fuzzy."
I thought I'd end the week with a sunrise photo I took on the 20th of January. The clouds were really dynamic and in formations I don't think I've ever seen. It reminds me of an old woven blanket of mine that is frayed on the edges. :o) Looking at the sky, you would never guess the violence going on above.... (see below)

SOLOR STORM
On January 20th, 2005, a giant sunspot named "NOAA 720" exploded. The blast sparked an X-class solar flare, the most powerful kind, and hurled a billion-ton cloud of electrified gas (a "coronal mass ejection") into space. Solar protons accelerated to nearly light speed by the explosion reached the Earth-Moon system minutes after the flare--the beginning of a days-long "proton storm."
The Jan. 20th proton storm was by some measures the biggest since 1989. It was particularly rich in high-speed protons packing more than 100 million electron volts (100 MeV) of energy. Such protons can burrow through 11 centimeters of water.
Here on Earth, no one suffered. Our planet's thick atmosphere and magnetic field protects us from protons and other forms of solar radiation. In fact, the storm was good. When the plodding coronal mass ejection arrived 36 hours later and hit Earth's magnetic field, sky watchers in Europe saw the brightest and prettiest auroras in years....

This is just an Awesome shot. The cloud formation are fantastic. I can see the wave action on the blue sky, incredible. And the sun is just at the right place. The right time at the right place. Also, I do remember that Solar Storm news. Scientist was worried about the effects that it would have here on earth. But luckily nothing happened. Aloha and thank you for sharing.

The frayed blanket is the perfect analogy here with the clouds. Another great shot of something with much more going on than the eye can see. I have never seen an aurora. I am very aware of how and when they are seen though. I wait for the day we, in Souther California, will have a chance to see them again with the help of extra sun spot activity. Or maybe I will just have to get up north. Thank you KP
