Description

Yes, Valentine is on it's way, and you might think this image has everything to do with it. Well, yes and no. Valentine is not really celebrated here and not at all by me ;-) but this year Valentine has a special meaning. Not because it's Valentine but because it's February 14. As of February 14 my son of 22 is moving out. Nothing special about that you might think, but that's not quite the case. You see, my son has a personality disorder which means he cannot function properly, especially in respect to making contact and socializing with other people. Which makes it very hard, if not impossible, to e.g. go to school or work at a job. And now he's moving out to live in a protected environment with two others, but still a bit on his own. On his way to an independent life, as far as it's possible for him. We love him dearly, and we hope he will find his own spot in life. Yvonne

Uniquely beautiful and loving spiral of hearts, Yvonne! The rich colors convey a wonderful sense of warmth and the outward motion of the spiral is very tangible and evocative of your situation and what you must do. Creative and lovely work! As long as there is that kind of supportive love, all humanly resolvable difficulties will be overcome; I empathize with your stress and concerns for your son, but know you must take pride in his growth and willingness to embrace such difficult changes. Letting them find their own way while standing aside, prepared to help, but letting them face the world on their own terms, is the hardest task we face as parents (no matter what their age or state of development). Have faith, Yvonne; he is more resillient than even he knows.
