Description

The Art of Filename Maintenance

the bells begin ringing
they're tolling for me
beseeching, "come hither!
there's something to see!"

i click "save a copy"
and give it a name
something quite cryptic
it's part of the game

then close ultra fractal
my sweet reverie
and follow the peals
still beckoning me

it's nothing exciting
it's not even close
it's only my dryer
announcing clean clothes

i fluff and fold towels
and pair up the socks
dream of maid service
and cruise liner docks

i refill the dryer
and take leave of there
head back to the pc
the cat's got my chair

perched on my tailbone
at the edge of the seat
i re-open UF
but soon face defeat

what did i name it
that fractal of mine
how could i forget
in such a short time?

it started with "a"
of that i'm quite sure
"a blue one", "a red one"
oh geeze, there are more

"a good one", "a square one"
"a spiral", "a sphere"
"a mandy" , "a glyph"
"a globe from last year"

"a new one", "a cute one"
"a start" and "a tweak"
i curse at my filenames
and play click and seek

the bells begin ringing
they're tolling for me
my tailbone's gone numb
and there's nothing to see...

That only happens to me about four or five times a day, but instead of writing poems I usually reach for my hammer and swear at the vagaries of my machine! Not that I work on that many images, but every file I have seems to get lost. Glad you found this one, a real beauty with glistening surfaces and deep rich colors. Excellent as always, a treat for the eyes and soul of this great admirer of yours!

Great poem Helen! I also had that, calling my fractals things like 'pink play', 'could be nice', 'maybe' and a lot of 'test'! One moment I had a range from test#1 to test #31; that's the moment I quit titling ;-) I only give them a date now! Love your work Helen, this one is beautiful!

Great image and brilliant poem! Yeah, know the story, and many times I bless programs that off a 're-open' option in the file menu, the only way I will find things again sometimes :)

Haha. Oh I can relate! You might as well have written that poem for me Helen except I don't own ultra factal (yet). I enjoyed this so much. And what a beautiful, clean fractal flower. A great entrance for this wonderful poem/story :)
