A rose from your funeral
That has since wilted away,
Like the years gone by
Between you and I.
It's been so very long
Since I've heard your voice.
That way you'd say "Hey"
Always made me smile.
What I would do
To hug you one more time,
To see you smile
With the toothpick in your mouth.
A sandal necklace,
A shoe that will never be
Too small for me.
Or fade, like my memories.
I miss you, Poppa,
I wish you were here
To finish watching me grow.
But I know you are.
I feel you around me,
Sometimes I want to reach out,
So I do in thought.
And I remember you.
I'll look forward
To seeing you again
When the time comes
For me to pass.
Until then,
I now give you a rose,
And an angel,
For you are my angel.
