Howdy! I'm just your average computer nut. I started out in computers back in the 80's as a programmer, went on in the early 90's to graphic design, got my degree is Computer Science, went forth in the 90's as a sysadmin and web developer, and now returning to my roots professionally as a programmer.
BIO
I've started quite a few companies in my internet tenure. My first was WebGiftShop - the first gift shop on the internet... unfortunately just a little before its time :) My latest venture is called DVDMenuBacks.com where I offer free FFU AVI video downloads of motion menu's, video animations, video loops and backgrounds. All released under a creative commons license (see site for details).

They both look really real; well done

The dark one looks slightly more real, I'd guess, because the reflections on the water that look a little bit artificial, don't catch the eye as much as on the bright one. Still an excellent work though, especially the background looks stunning real!

Both are made from CG and real photo. Background is a photo put on an alphaplane.

Yup: the foreground bouders are render (obvious in both images) but the woods look real to me in the bright version (I can't see a whole lot in the dark version).

Darker image does look more real because it hides some discrepancies in reflection. In a still pool the reflections would be very clear. Also the rock on the front left still looks a bit polygonal. Its still a great composition of the two! Keep up the good work.

i agree with Arsenic, the alpha plane is nice but too flat for a real image...
