Description

I am finally allowed to post my winning poem in the Renderosity Magazine Halloween contest! It was a wonderful experience! Took me all of 20 minutes to write with no rewrites! My muse was with me!--and has laid back on laurels ever since! LOL Enjoy! The Gift Thunderous hoofbeats in the dead of night No mortal could this be on such a flight, You know of course the dead don't rot Instead they rise up this eve and plot. Brittle leaves scattered o'er street Grotesque shadows dog your feet, Full moon leers behind blackened tree Locks of long hair caught as you flee. Run past graves lost in the mist Cannot deny that ghosts exist, Skeletal hand breaks the ground To the baying of Hell's own hound. Jack O'Lantern grins fire from his fields Stalks of dried corn are the swords he wields, Ravens raucously mock labored breath Telling of some soul's gruesome death. Invocation of the warlock raises Demons born to give him praises, Goblins run to do his bidding Leaping to the Devil's fiddling. White of skin and long of fangs See the vampire where he hangs, Swooping down out of the wood Desiring only to drink your blood. Ancient hag lodged beneath the oak Stirs the cauldron behind the smoke, Cackling laughter splits the air As you stumble up your stair. Fumbling with the key and latch Your only light a moonlit patch, At last behind the door and safe No longer Halloween's lost waif. Light the fire and stir the ash Finally time to count the cache, Chocolate, candy, caramel, too Lots and lots of sticky goo! You laugh and dance late this day Knowing you've escaped the fae, Until you notice as midnight closes The large bouquet of dead red roses... --Ramona L. Bryans (c.2004)

"Took me all of 20 minutes to write with no rewrites!" -- stop rubbing it in. WINK. Love the rhyme to this. Like my type of style I sometimes use, only yours is a ''whole'' bunch better. Excellent.
