Description

This is another picture that my sister sent me. It's one of Saddam Husein's palaces. It's called Al Faw. That's all I really know.

This is a really cool picture. Sometimes I wish I hadnt opted out when I did. Also, I wonder if dictators ever have time to actually enjoy the little beach/island in the midst of screwing with the rest of the world.

Excellent panorama of an attractive building, however what's with what seems to be colored port-a-potties on the left? Is some sort of renovation going on? A little research turned up; "....one of Saddam Husseins palaces and getting it ready to house Coalition Joint Task Force-7. The Alfaw palace, located near Baghdad International Airport, has 60 rooms, 29 bathrooms and is the centerpiece on a 155-building compound, said Dawson, the Alfaw palace maintainer. About 17 international and U.S. companies are involved in an ongoing, joint venture to transform the palace into a world-class CJTF-7 headquarters, said Sgt. Maj. Alex Branch, the C-3, logistics, sergeant major. A lot of money is being put into this project, but its not just to upgrade one building, Branch said. Improvements will be made in the surrounding community to help maintain an operational headquarters, he added. The palace was chosen to be CJTF-7s headquarters because its easy to defend with a small number of troops, its in the center of Baghdad and it doesnt displace civilians, said Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Preston, the CJTF-7 sergeant major." http://www4.army.mil/ocpa/read.php?&story_id_key=5533 I suppose it's in the "Green Zone"?
