EOWYN-Your comment about the US delay in entering WWII proves my point. The cause was a just cause, and it was something that ultimately had to be done. Public sentiment at the time really was to stay out of the war. As to your question about how long the war went on before US involvement, how long would have it continued without US involvement. Europe might have eventually defeated the Germans without US help, but would they have survived the development of the V3 and and Germany's fledgeling atomic weapons program? Americans to tend to look at history from their own narrow point of view, but Europeans seems to forget it. All of you people who want to reason with terrorists overlook the fact that even most Arab governments can't reason with them. The governments either end up as a repressive dictatorship or monarchy, or they turn a blind eye to terrorist actions and let them export their hate. We have encouraged the individual governments root out these people, and the result is 6333+ people dead. How many more shall we let die?

I like this one much more than the previous posting. I also agree that war, for the sake of war, is the greatest evil. Sometimes, however, war is necessary. Where would we be today if no one had tried to stop Hitler? No 86% of the people can't be wrong. Someone (obviously the president) wanted to take actions against the people responsible so he sent troops over. These are grown people making these decisions......I couldn't stop them if I tried, nor would I want to. We have let it slip long enough and look what happened....it's time to send a message back to them. We will flatten your cause before you have the chance to do it again.....at least anytime soon. No you can't ever stop this kind of attack. Think of how many people might have been inspired to do something like that from within any other country....if anything just to make history. You'll always have this but war stops the threat of an attack that might have been planned for the near future. Then maybe we'll be able to intercept the next attacks.....like we did the Y2K threats. For now war is needed because it's the last result. Hard. 6) When he gets up to punch you back, point out that it would be contrary to his values to strike you (because that would be awful and he should not cause more violence). 7) Wait until he cools off and agrees, realizing that he has pledged not to commit additional violence. 8) Punch him in the face again, even harder this time. 9) Repeat steps 5 through 8 until he understands that sometimes it is necessary to punch back.

SurfAce, let me just correct one tiny thing in your very elaborate comment: when the Reichstag was put on fire, the reaction of the Nazis was not to stage a new election but first to ban several parties altogether. With many members of the largest non-banned party (the social democrats)already arrested and an all-encompassing atmosphere of intimidation, the Nazis still didn`t get a mayority of votes (they got 44 % two elections earlier and were already on the decline since then). They never got one. Instead they banned all parties except their own.

That image was posted long time ago, but just arrived here and wanted to say something about it. Im not American, but i really felt shocked when i saw the images on TV. Now i think.. hows possible that someone who knows how much suffering involves nonsense death of hundreds of innocents can want the same for others? Im not an expert at politics or such things, but i just wonder.. what the secret services are for? I think Bin laden and the ones who helped him should pay for what they did.. but war?? what for? In the end who paid? Innocent people whose lifes where tough enough b4 war. Here in Spain weve been suffering for years terrorism from ETA (a terrorist group from the Basque Country).
