Description

OK, first of all, if the title didn't give it away, this is Death. She's a character in a series of stories written by a man with some interestingly odd perspectives on things named Neil Gaiman. The majority of the stories feature her younger brother, Dream, who's better known as the Sandman (as is the case in this series, which are named after him, although Death has a smaller sub-series of her own), and Morpheus, amongst many others. Many thanks to everyone who has offerred suggestions for my first entry into the gallery. Your expertise and comments are most appreciated. Image credits: Death is a standard P4 female. Her texture is original (and my first!). Necklace object inspired by Cin-, who suggested magnets to get it to curve along the lines of the collarbone and contributed a model for it. Ankh object contributed by SkyeWolf. Her hair has changed several times during her creation. This one is Confusius's MorphHair3, but may change again before she's absolutely finished- I'm still not really happy with it, although it should be emphasized that this is my own persnickety nature, and decidedly not an issue with the hair object itself. Death's omnipresent umbrella may be just a placeholder which might change also- it's a stock prop cane and cone merged, exported as an .obj, and reimported for use. I've given it a bit of texturing, and might end up keeping- I'm actually pretty happy with the way it has turned out. The background image is from Death: The High Cost of Living, and was drawn for that series by Chris Bachalo (thanks to SkyeWolf's SO for that detail- I'd had the picture kicking around for about 3 computers and couldn't remember the details). Once Death is done, I plan to continue working on the Endless. Delirium will probably be next to attract my attention.

My only suggestion would be anti-aliasing. You may find you like the hair much better if you render with anti-aliasing. It is always interesting to me to see how others view the Endless. This one has real potential. If it were me, I would make her face just a tad more round ::grins:: But, then again, I've not been brave enough to try to take on something like this.

DOH You're absolutely correct. I'd saved the initial image without anti-aliasing intending to resize it for use as a thumbnail, then made a tiny change- the umbrella ferrule just peeked out a tiny bit, and looking at initially I found myself wondering "what's that sticking out of her hair?" Anyway, after moving her arm and the umbrella slightly, I resaved the image and remembered to anti-alias it this time. You dropped in in the handful of minutes between. Like this one better? grin

Well, it's wonderful. I'm glad you liked the Ankh. I agree with the roundness of the face issue but that's just my personal opinion. I'm partial to Chris Bachalo's Death, and she has a "cuter" face.

I love seeing how people portray Death, also agreeing about the face being rounder, it is a good image!
