Description

Thanks for all the feedback on the third image in my mango series, MMM. I'm leaving it for now, but may revisit it in the future. Definitely when I have a tree full of mangos! :o) Here is an image from my archives. It was taken with my Dad's old Topcon 35 mm film camera that he picked up while serving in Vietnam. It was a great camera but weighed a ton! I saw this flower in a cow pasture in central Florida and stopped to take a few photos. Thanks for stopping by and for cynlee who identified the plant as a Yucca! Topcon 35 mm & PhotoshopCS ------ YUCCA PLANT Other Names: Adam's Needle, Bear Grass, Dagger Plant, Joshua Tree, Mohave Yucca, Our-Lord's-Candle, Soapweed, Spanish Bayonet Description: The yucca is dramatic with its clusters of sharp looking leaves and thick stems. It fits well in a minimal interior and against plain backgrounds. Origin: Mexico, Central and North America Family: Liliaceae (lily) Varieties: The best known as house plants are Yucca aloifolia (dense head of sharp leaves) and yucca elephantipes (loose head of leaves with a swollen base, like an elephant's foot). The latter is also called spineless yucca or pine lily. White bell-shaped flowers may appear after a number of years. It was adopted as the state flower of New Mexico on March 14, 1927. For more info on the Yucca, visit: SHG. Nature can provide for the needs of people; [she] can't provide for the greed of people. -Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

I really appreciate the contrast of the pastel cream and lavender of the bloom against the darker background. It really showcases the flower beautifully! And the sharp detail of each blossom is wonderful and yet each lays so softly against the next...I'd love this as a print in my home! Marvellous shot!
