Description

A friend who cared for injured wild birds asked me if I would like to take some photographs of a Kestrel he had nursed back to health. With a loaded camera I fired again and again as he let the bird fly from his hand, but it was a disaster. No sooner had the bird taken off than it was gone, miles away! Almost out of film the bird came to his hand for the last time and settled. Then, with a gesture of his hand to demonstrate a point, the bird raised its wings to gain balance and the action was captured on film. Days later I loaded the processed transparency into a slide projector and decided that I could probably manage to draw the bird and so I sat in front of the screen and drew the picture you see here. Normally I work in pen and ink, but this image was drawn on A2 with pencil crayons and it took on and off about eight hours to complete. Four separate A4 scans were needed to digitize it and then I joined the four images together in Paintshop Pro. It is obviously reduced in size here. Dedicated to TwoPynts, who takes pictures of Raptors.

It looks totally amazing even though it's impossible to see properly because of the huge size! Have to scroll up and down, right and left and it definitely reduces the impact of the drawing! A shame though cos it's very detailed and looks like an amazing drawing! U're very talented!! :)
