I'm just a German hobby artist, hoping to be good enough someday to work on a professional level. :)BIOOne day I saw this computer magazine in a shop, and it was about computer graphics. It had a CD with some cheap freeware 3D software and some tutorials inside. Since I liked movies with cool special effects, I thought I could look into it. That's how it started.
The first program I worked with was called POV-Ray. A freeware 3D Renderer that worked with text based commands, rather than a graphical user interface. Luckily, the CD contained some graphical programs that could save in POV-Ray's file format, and so I made the famous "chrome sphere on checkerboard suface" picture every 3D Newby does. XD
Since then I worked a lot on my skills, and started using different software. While POV-Ray has a nice renderer, I never could get used to the fact that I had to program my scenes. I'm working now with 3D Studio.

Looks fantastic! One criticism, your tatami mats aren't in the correct proportions. They are always made to the same proportions, one that fits the human form. You'll find that almost all traditional japanese interios are designed using this magic proportion, and this not only includes floors, but walls, doors and windows. There is bound to be somwhere online that tells you what this proportion is. I can't remember it off hand. Just thought you'd be interested!

You might try http://www.3dchaya.com/ for some traditional Japanese models. Not great models, but good reference meshes. The bench bothers me. I've never seen one inside a japanese house.
