Description

My wife has asked me to make a beach scene for her and after many tries, I have yet to produce a render that meets my expectations. I like the above render and I'm sure my wife doesn't notice the problem areas, but nonetheless, I want to improve. What tips/suggestions do you guys have about more realistic surf settings and how to properly smooth out the area where the surf meets the land? What are the best ways to make the sand look "wet" at the edges, but not too sharp? Anyway, I hope you'll all enjoy the above render, let me know what you think! -Aaron T. "I am my biggest critic"

Captivating render, maybe look at 2 layer beaches though... include wet sand close to water.

Excellent water, atmo/colours and mood; love the drama. Wetline: I add a near black layer - very sharp just below the water's edge and quite fuzzy heading up the beach (min/max heigh settings will depend on your terrain) - in many cases you won't need max slope settings on as water 'wets' everything. Finally, adjust reduce the fractal nouse of your wetline to zero (or near zero) and halve the coverage (imo, coverage acts like 'opacity' when fractal noise is set to zero). Hope this helps... :) Does anybody know how to post more than one comment on a pic?!

Fantastic sky and water colour. Only way I know to reduce those straight lines at the water's edge is in postwork with a cloning brush.

Yep a couple of layers for your beach (look at a really one and you can see how there are a couple of colours there). Check out Dotthy's tutorial I found it invaluable! As for sharp edges sometimes the terrain is forgiving and you can get away with the water but I have found you usually end up with sharp edges which can only be fixed with post work). This is still an amazing picture! Your dramatic colours are gorgeous!
