Description

The poem, High Flight,is Public Domain High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee No 412 squadron, RCAF Killed 11 December 1941 This poem and image are dedicated to Sherry Lea Chenault Nelson who flew from this world, into the next...Leanndra

A beautiful work and poem my friend!!. Downloaded this image with great pleasure, in several ways. As an aviation buff, I'd love to know something more about this pilot. It also has the colours of the Argentine flag, and couldn't help remembering our brave pilots who died during the South Atlantic Conflict in 1982. Thanks Leanndra, it's a moving homage in such an unexpected way also!!

As an aircraft mechanic, I hold our pilots in high regard. They put their lives in our hands every day...and we cannot fail them. Magnificent image and words!

I actually believe I met her from knowing her relative. It has been so many years since I lived there in your home town. super dedication Leanndra and I would think she would have liked it if she was still alive. You chose a very beautiful poem and you are a true friend-Vote
