Description

THE STORY

This scene is continuation of the story started with my previous picture "Striders in the Sun" - Striders are considered by ET069 Planet indigenous civilization as sacred animals and festivities take place during yearly migration of striders. Striders occupy this special place in ET069 civilization culture probably due to its very important role in development of indigenous civilization. Huge cocoons produced by striders larvae are composed of a kind of polymer like plastic. Since antiquity, this material was used by natives to produce their tools and even as construction material.

ABOUT THE SCENE :

Scene made with Vue 5 Infinite - Most of modeling was done in Cinema 4D, Aliens were assembled in Poser from various pieces - among them excellent eazy pose tentacle by Ajax. The rest is Vue - plantation was done using Vue plant editor and ecosystems - ecosystem was used also for rocks, and aliens & striders herds. All texturing done from scratch in Vue, mainly procedural textures were used. I used radiosity lighting model with one main sun light and one additional sun light to simulate sun glow lighting. Two additional directional lights - one for Aliens, one for Striders. Rendered with Vue 5. Check more about fabulous Vue 5 software on e-on software website

CREDITS :

Slug machine mesch is from TRAUG PROJECT website (textured by me in Vue using procedural textures)

As always, Robert, your work is beautifully done. Love the architecture and your omposition. your beasties are fabulous and I especially like the little armies you've put together with the flags and war machines. What really draws my eye here is the rocky elements in the foreground. That is fantastic as is the rest! v

Hi to everyone who spent some time commenting my Picture, Here are answers on questions I found in your comments: Does this scene have anything to do with Word of Dark Crystal? I don't think so - I never saw this movie, apparently there were some landstrider creatures looking a little bit like striders used in this scene, but this is the only link :-) Working hours ? Difficult question - I don't count them - and as I work on my scenes after work, on evenings it is hard to say about total time spent. I think it should be something around 2, maybe 3 weeks of full time work (10 working days) - When I prepared another scene "In peace we came" I did better accounting of time spent on it - it was rater something like a month - but on that scene I did all modeling - ships, aliens, distant base etc... and a lot of adjustments. Here I modeled only part of the city, totems and aliens, the rest was from previous scenes (strider plants, parts of the city, strider material) I used also a custom object - slug machine. A film about my aliens - sound great! Does anyone know a Produces willing to spend a couple hundred millions $ on my fantasies? ;-) Rendering time using radiosity - not so huge - originally rendered picture is 9 times so big (surface) 4800 pixels wide - it was finished in one night (something around 6-7 hours) on my AMD Athlon 3000+ - I did not used maximum rendering settings - If I remember correctly I did it in "Final" mode and radiosity quality -2 - so not very high settings, but when scene size was reduced it give very good looking picture. Vue 5 Infinite release date ? According to information from e-on website, commercial version of Infinite is going to be released on Monday the 14 March. I did actual scene on a test "beta" version provided to me by e-on (by the way - great thanks to e-on for giving me such opportunity to test the latest software :-) ) That's should be all! May the Creativity & Imagination by with you! Robert

Wow! This time even more amazing than usual! Your artwork is simply the best - please, don't stop to post here :-) Glad to see what you achieved with Infinite - there is a pointless discussion about ecosystems potential on Vue forum among guys who even did not saw infinite - you've proven with this picture that ecosystems are working and produce cool results! Thanks! :-)
