Description

This picture of this old house on Cambie, was taken last year, and posted on " Webshots " in one of my photos albums {Yesteryears #2 } For me this simple picture represente a totaly different experience in photography, and what someone has wrote about this old house, this is truly amazing ,and I would like to share with you! This old house is still standing to this day,and is unfortunatly no more than just an old house picture found on an abandoned road! On April 4, 2004 at 12:12 am, tipaul101 wrote: From: "Susan Maree Jeavons" To: Subject: Fw: RE:This old house on Cambie has seen better days!found near Sicamous. BC. ************* Date: March 14, 2004 6:00 AM I am writing to ask if you know anything about this charming old house. Who lived there? I know you probably just saw the house and photographed it, but I have a reason for asking. I have been a poet for over thirty years. When I saw this photo, a poem just came to me. I have no idea why, but it was like someone else was writing the words. I will share the poem with you. ******** The Ballad of Henry's Hollow Old Henry built it with his own hands, harvested the wood from his own lands. He dug the well and laid the stone and worked real hard to make it his own. Henry plowed the fields and tilled the soil, but he never complained of all the toil, cause the land gave back fore it took away and he counted his blessings every day. The years went by and Henry took a wife and she stayed with him nearly all her life, gave him a daughter, but no son, and she died when the child was only one. Old Henry's secrets were not revealed as he worked the land, every inch of field and he shared the bounty of his pride. Many folk were there when the old man died. There were five generations of Henry's kin, each one with a story of their old friend, but the one who really knew him well had a secret that she'd never tell. Many years have passed since Old Henry stood on the mountain side where he cut that wood and the house still sits on the land he praised, but the roof now sags where it once was raised. Now Henry's gone and his child is too, yet you'll hear her wail in the residue of the walls that kept her hidden well. Henry's secret's gone, but the house will tell. There are ghosts inside of the old homestead for they will not rest till the truth is said, but the one who knows all the secrets well swore to Old Henry she'd never tell. On the hill, near the house, where four stones rest, one epitaph reveals it best, "Here lies the soul of Henry's kin, born of his immoral sin." Folks pass this place where Henry's laid and they wonder bout that other grave, still the land gives back fore it takes away, and they'll figure out the truth one day. No name was on the fourth granite stone, and folks n'er knew this was his own, till they perceived Henry's evil deed; child of child, incestuous seed. © 2004 Susan Maree Jeavons As you can see by the poem, I believe this house has a story to tell. maybe we will never know the real story, but I believe that if this is some sort of divine inspiration, Henry's story must be told. Maybe you will just think I am one more insane poet. That well may be true! Ha! Anyway, thank you for your time. I hope you can tell me something. Anything would be appreciated. Sincerely, Susan Maree Jeavons Author of "Gathering Pearls, A Treasury of Inspirational Poetry" http://www.virtualbookworm.com/gatheringpearls.html The Best of Suite Anthology-Child Abuse and Recovery http://www.suite101.com/topic_page.cfm/4651/4550 Editor Child Abuse and Recovery ******* Just think! All this was transpire by viewing just at his single photograph ! That's my experience! That's her story! Hope that you enjoyed it!:) Thank you all for your visites and comments on my preposted work "NUFF" the little potbelly pig!

To bad no one has commented. Their loss. So I find myself lucky and in turn would like to share an observation. If we pause and study a photograph that has been well composed and technically executed, we may find greater meaning, especially if the photographer took the effort, as you have, to identify with he image. By just taking a photo it is just that, a snap shot. By thinking about the image and becoming involved we begin to tell a story. As you have seen happen here by the responses you received from the image. This is what good and successfull photography is all about.

This house, and your composition, has an intrinsic history imbedded within your image - a history that can spark the imagination and lead views to another time and place - all they have to do - is look :-) Bravo, well done!

I agree with Zacko... with Giancarlo we have always dream to have a small woody house in the forest... Maybe one day the dream become reall, but now it will be bigger for me alone. Everything have a story, and I think it's important to remaind this when we take a photography. It's never technical, or just a shot... there is always behind emotions and love. Who have lived in this house will be pleased to hear that you have think to they, invent a story to remind who they are, and what they made, even if your story is not theirs. Thank you for your sensibility Paul.

This is the power of images, dear... This is why photography will exist forever, regardless to new technologies, cinema, video games, etc... (especially when they are done with such a talent!) Do you understand what I meant by "webshots heroe", now?

It just shows, how something that inpsires you to take a chance photograph can then inspire someone else to do something completely different! But looking at the picture you can understand the effect it had on her, well done.
