I never wanted to be married. Father had met my future husband on a business trip. He told me that we would make a ravishing couple when he returned home, to England; what he hadn't mentioned was that he had already planned our engagement. My father - who was strong-willed and determined to have a grandson run his business one day, since a woman most certainly couldn't do it - laughed at my objections to marry.
