Description

I'm almost finished with this Rome mini-serie... got another one, maybe two to submit but I still have to work on them. Now to this one: here you can see a good part of the Trajan's Forum with the famous Trajan's column still partially caged. The column is a wonder itself. Actually it is a comic-strip 200 meters long depicting the Trajan's campaign in Dacia (now Romania). The Emperor was said to be "optimus princeps" meaning "the best of the emperors" because during his empire Rome experienced one of its richest and peaceful times. The first statue that was on top of the column was an eagle, roman symbol, but after the death of the emperor it was replaced by a statue of him and his ashes were put under the basement (it's still possible to enter the column and to climb a staircase all inside it). Later, in 1588, the Pope Sixtus V decided to replace the statue of the emperor (which is now lost) with a Saint Peter's one! So now the message of the monument is that... S.Peter conquered Romania! :D hope you like it.
