Description
This is a 3D piece that i just finished recently.. it's titled: "Serenity"
it was done using Maya, After Effects, Photoshop and Deep Paint 3D and it was done in about a month (working at night on it-- as a personal sort of 'therapy project!')
lately, my 'day job' has me working on a lot of interior architecture (hard edged objects, corridors, confined spaces, etc) and i wanted to something 'organic' and open..
i grew up on a farm in Ohio-- and this piece was a result of those memories.
..and finally-- this piece wasn't intended to be 'photo-realistic' but more of a 'fantasy dreamscape-like' image..
questions/comments/feedback-- are appreciated!

Very nice, some gripes though if I may.. The changes in sharpness/focus are a bit strong maybe, making it all look a bit like a miniature set. Also the river seems too bright.. Even bright reflections on water shouldn't be brighter than their "real" counterparts, so at the moment it looks more like a river of milk than water :] Nothing major though, it's still good over-all thumbs-up

I Love it - it's like seeing a photograph of a dream I once had...And it reminds me of a painting my parents have hanging in their living room. Wonderful fantasy-scape that takes me back to my youth in rural PA. Blessings to you and great work on a fabulous image!

Very nice, peaceful scene. Did you use PaintFX for the trees? How about the water? Ocean shader or something else? I like all that green vegetation and the soft feel to the pic. :)

Wonderfull! Your work reminds me of the farms in rural western Wisconsin. Very peaceful and idealic. A place I would like to live. (the water seems a bit silvery though)

thanks for the nice comments and feedback! yes, it definitely reminds me of the Midwest! (and home!) i grew up in Sandusky, Ohio.. and i also spent a good amount of time in Pennsylvania with relatives, etc.. and then i lived in Chicago for a bit-- and we'd travel up to Wisconsin for vacations, etc.. i guess all of those experiences are still with me-- in memory, eh? currently- i'm living in Los Angeles, CA.. big difference to say the least! as for the water-- i agree, and i actually spent quite a bit of time re-working it.. but i can't seem to find a way to 'replace my original image that i posted'?? if you are interested-- visit my website at: www.cg-2.com (there's a new version posted there, as well as other art!) -cg

here's another version i worked on.. the water has been reworked.. i added shadows from the left bank.. and also rocks and misc ripples associated with the rocks.. i also adjusted some settings for Depth of Field (it was a selective lens effect before-- in that it was focused on the barn-- and faded off radially to the right) now it's a standard DOF lens.. where the focus is in the foreground/midground plane.. falling off to the background.. Sue88: yes, all the foliage (grass, tree, flowers, etc) were done using Maya's Paint Fx-- and then converted into polys for rendering in Mental Ray.. as for the water, it was a fluid dynamics simulation with the ocean shader attached as the material (it was adjusted to needs, as well) Chad
