Description

So, here is the new version! The rendertime was even longer, 5h20m42s, but i activated caustics too... I also redid the seat-material, got rid of these phong-breaks, got the lighning better by darkening the materials, a less black black, de-bow-tied the main gear (biggest part), adding DOF, and, and and... I think i made some approvement... Ah, i remember still as it was, eemmm, some days before yesterday, but it was xmas as i got this model. It was my first Lego Technic model i got, so it is, well, quite special for me. It was a huge tree by my parents, and many, many gifts under it for me! This was the last one, and after unwrapping it and a half an hour, i was back from this "fever" and the model built. So my fascination for LEGO, and in special Technics, started, and now, after some years of abstinence, i'm again in, but this time with bits and bytes only... So i thought, i start rebuilding virtual LEGO with this model. Built in MLCad, thanks to the developers, converted to .obj with LdrDat2Obj, thanks too, and rendered in C4Dr9 Thanks for all the comments on the last version! Greetz HJT

As I look over this project, I must say that there are some fuzzy areas in the near field that don't match up with other objects. Kind of makes my eyes keep trying to adjust to depth of field! I like the composition very much but feel it needs a little more attention.

I agree with the post about the DOF setting. I see no need for caustics in this scene. The only thing the caustics would do for this scene is increase the render time quite a bit. Other than that, everything looks great.

i see the other side of view. it may be not need the cautics and depth of field, but it enhanced the overall image.just imagine everything is flat and no visual direction. that's why camera angle is very important. i feel fine of your cg image. good detail and great rendering.

Great image. I can tell you put a lot of work into it. It obviously has emotional attachments, as you mentioned. Regarding the caustics, that was my first question too, why? As for the dof, if the front were in focus, it would make more sense. If you are going for realism, a table top photo like this, would typically be in focus front to back, unless the photographer had something special in mind. Even then, it is a drastic dof. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments! In the setting process for the DoF, i tried many things, but i chose that setup, because i think with this drastic field i may get an unexpected effect, make the object bigger than it really is. I learned that the unfocussed spots are unimportant, the main part should be focussed, so i thought to guide the eye to the engine i made this front-defocussing... I let this image as it is, but i implement all these proposals in the next pic...
