Description
This is the first from a short series taken in the Field Museum in Chicago. This was partly done for Michelle, as she maintains a fascination with dead things. And partly to test out how a digital camera (here a Minolta A2) would work under these conditions.
There were a few lessons learned. The lighting was dim, and mixed. I think I would have been better forcing a "indoor" white balance, rather than leaving on automatic. Handheld exposures, braced against the glass case, were still problematic; sometimes several seconds. Someday I'll go on a really empty day, and BEG to get my tripod past the guard!
Main new lession learned: with film, such long exposures really bring out saturated hidden colors. With digital, long exposures bring out noise. Lots to learn.

Glad you posted your comments - very interesting point about exposure times. Well another good reason to hold on to my old nikon fm2's.

I told that ,when you increase iso ,you make noise, and you must go in the blue layer( photoshop) to add blur.BUT,NOW, it's finih: i bought the marvel of the marvels ,an EOS 20D CANON !1600 iso and no blur(and no tripode ) a delight!except the price!!!maybe correct the yellow color with curves! oh,Yeeees, i know ,i fuck off the flies..But we were talking about technic!!!!Before EOS, i had a nikon 5700 ,perfect for macro( the best),but only for macro; And there, a lot of noise. With EOS only 0.2 second to take a photo (from the camera stopped to the shot!!!) BETTER, than argentic! And more, a big zoom stabilized!!! THE MIRACLE!

Yep long exposures = noise and auto w/b can throw up a few wobblers! Anyway back to the point, this is a fascinating image, love the colours and textures, I am fascinated by this, what for me looks maybe Mayan or Egyptian, I am sure Michelle will love it too.

Agree about the comment (DELMUR) re- blur... red & blur (as in dreamsuite software i use) improves a noisy digi 85%...something about the red enhances the yellowy to normal and the blur can improve the noise. Experimentation is the sponsor of progress.

Yes, I do love this sort of thing.... I could spend hours and hours in a place with these sort of artifacts..... glad to see you playing around with the A2. I think what you figured out on your own was quite right. Wonderful image!
