Description

All along my journey beginning from day one I've had my eyes wide open staring at the sun My primary years were full the pictures tell me so yet my earliest memory haunts me I have yet to let it go A nightmare soothed with icecream by Mama's giving hand Association then impressed my path apon the sand From home to home and school to school my instinct lead the way logic was confusing reason depended on the day I tried to feel the comfort which I was being taught hard when all my friends were gone replaced by trinkets bought My being still relentless I searched to find some truth My curiousity nurturing Belief, Hope, Faith and Youth Just as close as this past moment My minds eye shows me clear The first encounter with my best friend I'd wished to meet that year "A kindred to laugh and prank with Who'd understand my mismatched ways Someone to teach me that taking your time more than often pays A friend to lend me comfort just by being there someone who would find a way to show me that they care" I skipped to school that morning As it was the first day back Toting all my school supplies in my brand new red backpack I hung around the cubby hole I'd labeled as my own Nervous and observing how all the kids I'd known had grown I peered around the corner to assess the danger zones Trying to recite the ryhme about the sticks and stones A new face of a girl my age was the first thing that I saw All alone she stood there with her back against the wall As shy as I was scared Our eyes met with a smile I felt ok enough to go make small talk for a while I approached her so very slowly no clue of what i'd say at all then I spotted a green object behind her back against the wall (Here I go, now I know!) "Hi there, are those mittens?" "Pencil Case" was her reply (I hoped that she liked kittens) after that we laughed in sync I said "My name is Jenny Burke" She said "My name is Jenny too" I was thrilled, (this just may work) This moment meant the world to me as it became the one the friendship I so longed for Had definetley begun Ages spent together flying by so fast We worked towards this blessing Our bond will always last

The writing is exceptional the words harmonize a story perfectly lucid embracing a profound truth of so very many. They pulsate with courage provoking fluorescence recognizable and remarkable a voice endearing, unique a personal journey of black on white one to another. I smiled as soon as I saw you posted. Welcome friend. "HUGE HUGS"

Hey Tolerance! I'm new as well. I know how encouraging comments can be (or discouraging:]), and I wanted to tell you that it's really nice to come across something that's crafted well, and that I'm personally really refreshed to read it. I liked it very much. Do keep writing. I appreciate the effort it must have taken you to get the metre and rhyming to hang together. Good job! :)

Awesome poem. I don't want to repeat what everyone else has been saying, but this truly does flow with a beautiful rythym, the one thing that many poets (including myself) forget when trying to force rhymes together. It also has such a great story to it that it made me smile (something I don't like doing too often). I could never remember when I met my best friend, all I know was that it was kindergarten and we're both 21 now.

Thank you so much for your comments. I met my best frien in Grade 2. I wrote her this and read it at her wedding in November. We are now approaching our 32nd year. She is truly one of my top successes in this life. I value our bond as precious, we were separated by yet another one of my fathers transfers at age twelve and have remained thight as ever, ever since. Despite extreme physical distance now, I am in eastern Ontario and she is in Vancouver BC. WE still see each other a few times a year, and keep in contact every few days. Infact I will be seeing her in April, YEAH me.. Thanks agian.. wooah that was a bit of a ramble there (excuse) LOL Peace Harmony and TOLERANCE to you all.
