I should be sleeping right now as we'll write an exam tomorrow, I should have learned my french vocabulary... but I didn't.
The reason is a movie thats in the cinema these days. It's called "Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage" and tells the story of Sophie Scholl, a member of the resistance group "The White Rose" in the Second World War, from the day before her capture till the moment of her execution.
The movie is very, very, very touching and also disturbing. Julia Jentsch plays the role of Sophie incredibly empathetic, and it hurts to see Sophie withering in the prison cells, defending her beliefs in the interrogations, even when she could save her life by saying her (completely nonviolent) resistance was a mistake. One can just admire the integrity and the inner strength of this woman who was only twenty-one as she died.
Sophie loved the nature, the sun and the sky, in the movie her last words are: "The sun is still shining." She was also very religious.
I tried to show her despair, her desire for walking into the sunlight, as well as her inner light. I didn't want this to be a portrait of her, but I hope that I might portray the feelings her fate caused in me.

The White Rose resistance movement. I've been to the place where she was captured, the place is today commemorated only by a few flysheets, or rather, facsimiles thereof made from stone, embedded into the cobblestone, close to Munich's city centre. More should be done to remember those who fought the regime from within the German population. Great work. Carry on.
