Silent Spring 4K by czarnyrobert

May 16th, 2009 - Malopolska - Southern Poland - Mid size ship carrier hovers over Wierzbanowa village - reconnaissance teams onboard of several small multipurpose scout ships are about to directly examine Earth's life forms and check closely the spot that was chosen for settlement of first colony base.
Scout Ships levitate thanks to antigravitational field generators. If you look on right corner, you may notice how ship generated force field interacts with environment - it lays down rye plants while ship approaches the ground - the filed force rises gradually and close to the fuselage it is hard as the steel although remains invisible - this phenomena is the reason why ships shapes are not very aerodynamic - aerodynamic of the hull does not matter, as it is completely sheltered by force filed.
Scene was made with Vue 5 Infinite - if you want to know more about making of this scene, check my website - section SCENES - there is detailled and illustrated article about "Making of Silent Spring"
A P P E A L ! ! !
Guys (& Ladies ;-) ), look at the artistic level of Renderoisity galleries, and go on CGTalk and compare both galleries - OK pros are on CGTalk and amateurs on Renderosity, but we are all responsible for the look and artistic form of this place - be more inventive, be more exigent and critical towards your creations and those post by others.
Maybe some of you think that it is "politically correct" to post lame renders and require only "excellent" ranks and post comments dipping from hollow superlatives...
- Wrong!
Doing this, we kill the artistic level of this gallery, we chase valuable artist from here.
Don't let Renderosity became a place for lame kitsch
Each of us can do better, can work harder on its pictures before posting them.
I play with Vue since 3 years, I have almost no other experience with graphics, never studied art - I am chemistry engineer - and Pole (my nation is known worldwide for its diligence, precision and invention ;-) just joking)
I can not do a nice picture in 15 minutes - nobody can - it is impossible - so I don't post 1000 same lame quality pictures.
Let's try to prepare something that can really impress someone and I post it when we feel that we've done everything possible.
Lets all be responsible for THE ART!
May the imagination & creativity be with you!
PS. Now the image is available in UHD size

I cant belive my eyes, this one is awesome. What damned powerful scale, what detail, wow, i love this photographic MASTERPIECE, pls do more of it. Because of this impressive details i prefer your closeups of the imageparts, each of it is just stunning. Very big Vote!

This is unbelievable. I dread to think how long it took to create.

Exceptional work, clearly showcasing just what V5 is capable of in the right hands.

Ahhh, put new toys in the hands of a true VUE master, and this is what we get. Well deserving of all of the praise and votes. I appreciate your artistry and attitude! You continue to inspire.

"I can not do a nice picture in 15 minutes - nobody can - it is impossible - so I don't post 1000 same lame quality pictures." Well you could start by stopping posting all of these close-ups. Secondly, by looking closely at the image again and again, did anyone notice that a lot the items in the image (like cars, houses and cows) seem to be hovering just above the ground? If you take time to look at the close ups you will start seeing that more clearly. If you think so highly of yourself as an artist, you may want to do something about that flaw. Also take a look at the white stationwagon just behind the yellow dumptruck, how could you have missed the error in that one? The roads.... those are way to small even for a Polish village. Did you actually ever see a Polish village that's so neat and tidy? Also you may want to check out the shadow on the landed spacecraft and compare it to the shadows of the objects nearby. The shadow of the landed spacecraft doesn't match with the rest of them. Lastly, I vaguely remember people living in villages, I may be wrong though. This scene is very unnaturaly, if an event like this would really take place during broad daylight, the village would look completely differently. I guess you're just like the rest of us, making huge mistakes in our work, hoping to get away with them. If you haven't noticed the obvious mistakes then you may want to start training your eyes to notice flaws in your own work too. Next time you make an appeal like that, remember these comments, you make huge errors too..... Still a very good image, but no need to come down on the rest of us like you did. "Let's try to prepare something that can really impress someone and I post it when we feel that we've done everything possible." You may want to listen to your own advice, the pic clearly shows that you haven't done everything possible. Rendering time don't impress me and with the amount of work you've put into it, these obvious flaws shouldn't have been there. If you would have spent only 15 mins on it, I would have not commented (but be very impressed), but since you have, I can only say that this needs improvement. "Each of us can do better, can work harder on its pictures before posting them." You really should have done that! Last comment, if you would not have posted the appeal, I wouldn't have commented at all. Since you did, I had to comment, showing you that you don't abide by you own rules. That gives you no right to 'force' these rules on us. OK, got to go back to work now, still got make some more 15 minutes lame quality pictures. I can assure you I'll have lot's of fun creating and showing them!

Woooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww !!!! Wonderful scene ! Bravo !

Thank you aeilkema for time you've spent to find all errors - your comment is one of the most valuable I ever get here - it is easy to put "amazing masterpiece" comment, but to find all mistakes and explain how to correct them is much harder, so this time aeikama really succeeded to do a great job that should be an example for all of us. Thanks again, and I wish you same success in other domains too!

aeilkema! your comment to this picture is simply pathetic! You reproach czarny several mistakes (that I even can not see here) while your own gallery (I just check it) is even more pathetic than your comment - you have to admit, that you are simply jealous that czarny's artistic level and vue mastering are far beyond anything you can ever achieve. this scene is far beyond anything I ever saw here - the best of the best!

All I can say is wow! The city of the future is here. Get me on one of those spacecrafts pleas!

aeilkema, thanks for "Did you actually ever see a Polish village that's so neat and tidy?" Did you actualy ever see a Polish village at all? ;) *** By the way, I agree that the image is a bit sterile. But you should read the author`s comment before posting such a detailed review;) The village is simply deserted!

Man my hat is off to you!!!! Quite simply a spectacular render!!! Especialy the terrain, it's very believable!!! VOTE

Its been a while since I posted a comment or even a pic but I thought you should have my first comment :) You have really perfected your skills, this looks awesome!! I love the details!!

OK! Sorry to be harsh with people who simply put "Amazing scene" comments to my pics. As shinyary2 said - just wanted to encourage people to put more valuable comments with tips that could help others. In want concerns grass, ship elevation above ground and shadows - this is just an illusion - notice that this is dawn - look on trees shadows to evaluate sun position above horizon - not more than 10 degrees - that's why ship on the right, hovering just 2-3 meters above ground cast shadow that is so much displaced - there was no "hand made" postwork here - so this shadow is exactly on place it should be - ray-tracing did it - there is another reason why I placed the ship in this position - to get better contrast between ship and environment if placed directly on the ground - ship colors mixed up with grass in shadow color - especially cockpit (on left side) - it does not look good. But thank you for this remark - it should be useful for next scene - I will try to avoid such misleading illusions - Just one funny example - in my scene with cat in boots (posted in TROC gallery) someone find that mice tail shadows look strange - sometime are curved while tail looks straight - the same phenomena - light low angle of incidence :-)) perfectly natural :-))

I hate to draw, to paint etc..., I can't even piss a letter on the snow. But I love to admire great art I can find here. So who am I to give hints? The best I can do is to write: "Amazing!!" or sth like this. And till ranking will be connected with comments, to give a vote I must write anything. So I do: Amazing picture!! :-))

My original comment: First I want to say that this is one of the .. if not the most detailed image, not only 3d image but image I have ever seen. I love all the details and especially how you so openly share your 'secrets' on how this was done - it really introduced me to the possibilities of a program like Vue Infinite.. a dream to have it seems, but as also said .. it is not the tool it is the artist behind it that matters. Again thanks for sharing all the information, links etc. Hats off to you! Excellent work and my vote! -------------- *** Additional comment: I revisited your image today since I find it very beautiful, and then saw your appeal to make more valuable comments. So I will try to give you some advise to improve your image, I see only one thing that I thought I would mention, since prevously worked a lot with Terragen I have seen this little "error" quite often, so I just wanted to make you aware of it - and I may even be wrong (I have been wrong before :-) The problem is the horizon (or lack of horizon).. with the current POV, I would guess a few hundered meters up in the air I think we somewhere in the picture .. far far back would se a horizontal or almost horizontal horizon, for example the sea.. or hills contiue and have. Compared to the sky it is not convincing that the hills back there is so big as to cover for the horizon and even through the haze it should be visible. As it is now it looks very much like the "end of terrain" problem that have often seen eg. in Terragen pictures were you are in no doubt that the "world" ends just over there behind that mountain :-) Just a suggestion for minor improvement. Otherwise an amazing image you have produced here.

Okay, back here like the sucker I am :-) does anyone besides me think it's ironic that robert's almost only getting critique from the people who were offended by his appeal? Just wanted to say something more that I noticed the second time around, since he asked for ideas... I think the "shield" effect on your ships is too subtle, I didn't even notice it before. Okay, I'll shut up now.
mickusher
I think your appeal is a bit out of order. You are waaaaaay better than most people on renderosity, BUT I don't think that just because you nailed a big render that it qualifies you to lay down the law - you pic is damn sweet, but everyone has to start somewhere - sure...be the best you can and I hope lame posts get vetoed...it's all a learning thing and renderosity is where a lot of people come to learn...nice pic - give it a 10 lot of work....much respect.

I love your work!!!!:o)v

Interesting discussion and point of views, I must say. Okay - first of all, I dont have any tips for you. Reason? Hell, I am sitting in front of the screen and am amazed about the image. But I think thats kind of normal, isnt it? I am far beyond of your degree of what youve achieved in the CG art level (what I mean - I am hundreds of levels down .. sigh). So, I am not in any position of giving any hints or tips for you. Honestly. Another thing - for beginners (I do call me a beginner, even seeing work like this!) its hard to get any comments, rankings (I dont care about the rankings, so I am not "requiring" it at all) or anything here on Renderosity at all. The place is so crowded, sometimes "me" is just lucky to get 1 to 5 comments at all. Thats about it. Its nice to read, that this or that is a nice image. Keeps me smiling - but, this is the downpart, its really rare, that anybody gives advise at all. On the other hand, I dont see it, that youre being "harsh" to others with your comments. I think I know what you mean and I have looked at the site youve mentioned too - hey .. this is way out of my league (I think ...) - therefore this place wont be seeing me - for your degree? No problem! ;O) One thing I think that is very cool is - youve described how youve made the scene on your website - for beginners/hobbyist artists like me, its very interesting how youve did it at all. Very nice! ;O) (I would give an "Excellent" ranking for sure, but since I think that the main goal for you was not only the most excellent image youve posted, but rather than write your point of view with it, I wont give a ranking.) ;O) Take care!

Its just not only a picture. Its a visual story ! Very good. This picture invites you to take a walk in it. I love it. Greetings from Germany to Poland. Please go on.

You should consider doing illustrations and cover art for SF books and magazines in case you decide to pursue a second career.

I absolutely agree with you about the level of art on renderosity...what is renderosity missing is CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIZM I am looking to this image and cant't find thing that should look better. I think you have mastered vue (an here is only a litle to improve)On your side i would try another more advanced package, creating your own models ...with your talent you get this kind of result very quickly. Cheers :)

Brilliant work.

Well-spoken, and I'm really blown away by what you've done here! Shoot for the stars, and keep at it...

Excellent work! Great attention to detail and very good feeling for atmosphere. It could be improved, though with better composition (abstracting object to 2D contours in your head and trying to arrange them better, according to human psychology, defining one area of interest, placing it in the correst place, using composition lines etc...). Otherwise technically excellent work! I otherwise avoid using landscape generators and try to do all 3D work in Cinema 4D - but I'm more and more convinced that the latest Vue is worth giving it at least a try :) I also agree with your appeal in blue type!

Hi There, this image is excellent, as all artwork is about perception and lets not forget personal taste, to me it looks very much like a photogrpah and although it may have flaws, an artsist doesn't conceal flaws they in fact trick the viewers eye into not seeing them or in actual fact accepting them as real. I do take a little unbrage at the opening comments though, and I believe it may have had a negative effect that you did not aticipate. I am appalled now to see people trolling other peoples work and sometimes using your comments as the reason. To name one Zelger on here is obviously hitting back at another member over their comments here, after looking at their gallery I can only put the commnets down to bad feeling and the need to humilate and cause distress to someone else. There is no helpful critique just blind vitriol and rudness. I myself am not a first rate artist, I am like a lot opf people just learining. We need the feedback and encouragemnt probably more than established artists. Just because we are learning should we be penalised and denied this right just so better and more established artist have an elitist gallery. Maybe you did not mean your comments to be as harsh and negative as they came off. Yes we can all work harder and better, but some of the people who are now being attacked because of your comments dod their BEST. Thats all anyone can hope for really.

nice work

you sir although you may argue the point are a god among men just for this image, Im a sci fi buff to an extent and this covers the best criterias, mainly scale but also the need to look alien in appearence! Awesomne Work!

My observation: I don't believe the huge midsize ship hovering over the hill on left could last long. It's own weight would collapse it under our planet's gravity. Should be higher in the atmosphere. Just something that bugged me about the composition. Keep up the great images.
