Description

"Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways." - Oscar Wilde This began as an experiment with SSS (sub-surface scattering) in Cinema 4D, and turned into a somewhat more involved project. Although there are 62 different crayons in this image, there is only 1 wax texture, thanks to Bobtronic's ColorChanger shader, which assigns random colors to duplicated objects. It took longer to render this picture (just shy of an hour) than it did to create and arrange the objects. Enjoy! Everything created, textured and rendered in Cinema 4D 9.1

This is so real - I can even touch it. And it reminds me of my childhood days when I was sick and Grandma came to visit me... every time with a big box of wax-crayons in her handbag.

bobtronics shader is quite intresting. The shadows seem a bit too dark to me.(I'm sure I've seen something very similar to this over at CGtalk recently.)

I'm glad you like it ;-) Turner is correct; I posted a preliminary test of this scene on CGTalk shortly after I started playing with ColorChanger. I also agree that the shadows were a big too dark; I've reduced the density 25% and reposted the image. Enjoy!

Looks really good! Love the bump on the wax.

The colors are so bright, the crayons so realistic. They make me want to draw a picture, just like when I was a little girl. (heavy sigh)
