Description

I found this poor guy out in my yard. He met his fate (I suppose ) by flying into the window. I'd like to honor his life by posting this final shot of him, I really love the black hearts on his feathers. Flickers are one of the only woodpeckers who eat mostly off of the ground. enjoy...

I also love the way he was holding onto the wood, very ironic for a woodpecker!! ;)

You know what they say "Live by the wood, die by the glass". Err wait...Oh nevermind. Very sad indeed, but nice of you to post a tribute to the poor guy. Another clear product testimony to Windex.

Thank you Akemi. I love birds and have many feeders about the backyard, right outside my kitchen window. We do not have Flickers in our area, so this is the first one I have seen. Several years ago we had a male woodpecker, type: Hairy, come around a few times. But this year I am in heaven, as just 18 feet from the kitchen window, we have a female come for the last 5 weeks. She now shows up at all times during the day for her goodies and then checks my trees afterwards. As for you photograph, you have indeed given tribute to a beautiful bird. Thank you very much.

I used to have a woodpecker as a pet. I kept in the tiled bathroom and it ricocheted to death :) Seriously, it's sad end.

Very beautiful and sad photo. [This is a little different variety of flicker than the ones in my area--this has more red under the wings, where ours are more yellow.]
