Description

- Scotland, Loch Awe - Because of the neverending rain I had to visit another church, a truely HIGHLIGHT of the area. But there I was almost despaired about the raindrops on my lense and the many trees around, so it was nearly impossible to get a complete catch of this old building. St Conan's Kirk overlooking Loch Awe was begun in 1881 and substantially altered and added to until 1930. Walter Campbell, the architect and a local landowner, and his sister Helen, included on the exterior almost every style of church architecture and embellishment. Most of the kirk is in a Norman or Romanesque style, including not only early and late types of this but other and totally different styles. (The interior I will show next days.) St. Conan is the patron saint of Lorne and is reputed to have lived in Glenorchy. Your visits and comments are always welcome! ;o)
