Description
We are handicapped from the start by being a member of the human race. We have far too much beast in us to own the power we have to hurt each other. That's the way I see it, anyway.
I know I spend too much time wishing I were something else. A dog, a bird. Something that feels the joy of living without reserve. Wouldn't it be nice to care about nothing but the joy of running into the wind with ears flapping and inhaling a million different wonderful smells? Wouldn't it be nice to forget completely who last seasons mate was or what happened to your hatchlings? I wouldn't mind living for the day.
To be human is to endure pain. Life is a long season of work, and worry, and dissappointments with a few moments of joy thrown in along the way to make things somewhat bearable. Don't be bitter, don't be down, have hope...for what? We are born, we live, we procreate...or not, and we die. What makes us different from our animal brothers? We have this horrible thing called emotions. We are constantly in search of what we think we need to have to be happy. When we have it, we think we could stay happy, or be happier if we had something else.(or someone else)
What if all we had to worry about was today. Not tomorrow, when we finish school, or tomorrow when we raise the family, or tomorrow when we are old and alone. What if we worried about just today??
Oh yes...The Grasshopper Theory. Oh well. I still see as many grasshoppers as I do ants. In my opinion they have alot more fun.

"...do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:34 NKJV) - Don't mean to be preachy, but that last sentence clicked the quote in my head. And we SHOULD have a lot more fun than we do! Life is too precious to spend all that time in the dumps; worrying and striving for the next "best" thing. The animals KNOW that life is a gift - that's why they seem to enjoy it to its fullest! Oh great...now I've got the song "Born Free" playing in my head....(sarcasm added for effect). -j.p.
