A remarkably inventive and culturally advanced nomadic and agricultural tribe of indians who settled in the Salt River and Gila River valleys of Arizona around AD 300-1200. They developed a 10 mile long irrigation system to develop their agricultural capacity and this is part of a ruin of a settlement that included a two storey building "Casa Grande"....something that was an architecturally significant structure because it evolved beyond the usual single storey adobe buildings of the day. They disapppeared around AD 1200-1500. Ho Ho Kam means "those who vanished"

This was a colour photograph that I converted to grey scale and it wasn't until I did so that I noticed that the shadow created by the wall to the left actually resembles (somewhat) a classic indigenous profile.....hence my sense that their spirit still inhabits the community they built.
