Description
Dalek model by Eric C. Peterson from www.3dcafe.com
Exterminate font from www.geocities.com/whofonts/
Model recoloured/retextured and scene created/rendered in Vue 5 Infinite. Text added in PhotoShop CS.
The forthcoming return of Dr Who to TV screens in the UK (Sat. 26th March 2005) prompted this image as part of learning V5I. I wanted to see how V5I handled older 3DS models (very well), to learn how to retexture such models using the Material Summary easy), to test out rendering speeds (fast) and to experiment with V5I saving functions. All basic stuff but useful for understanding differences between V5I and V5E.
The entire scene is set inside a blue-textured sphere primitive that provides the "screen" for the silhouette.
Lighting is a single quadratic spot with default settings placed at 90 degrees to the Dalek.
Camera is set to 15mm to give the Dalek model a warped, surreal effect to contrast with the silhouette.
I would very much appreciate comments on the composition, especially
- the inclusion of the model to the right: is it too intrusive? should it have been a black command Dalek maybe? original idea was just the projected silhouette + text.
- text: placement OK? inclusion: yes / no?
Thanks for looking.
Mark

Cool!!! A fine composition. Not intrusive at all. Great work!!!

I've just come across this image - the composition looks absolutely fine. The text is apt - suitably dalek-like. Why not try re-rendering the dalek in black and posting it, then ask folks to compare the two and comment?

Thanks for the comment. I did this one so long ago I'm not sure I have all the files but if I find them I might try a variation. Cheers, Mark
