I really like the terrain, however I agree that the atmosphere needs work. Try rendering this without a sky, and superimpose it over a starscape.

Nice terrain and pov - it looks like you have the haze/cloud colour set to near-black - try to avoid this - try backlighting the terrain (i.e. don't have the sun pointing directly at the terrain, coz no shadows = little detail) - let's see you work this some more!
