Description

This little guy is one of the fastest little birds around. I caught him taking a breather... Thanks for having a peek and indulging me as I try shooting different subjects..Aloha to Everyone! The Pacific Golden Plover (Pluvialis dominica fulva) Kolea (KO-LAY-UH) is the Hawaiian name for this migratory bird from Alaska. It breeds along the coast of Western Alaska and Siberia. It spends its winters in Hawaii and in places throughout the South Pacific and Indian Oceans. The kolea's plumage changes color during spring time in Hawaii. The top is black with white and golden, yellow spots. The Koleas arrive in Hawaii around August. The plumage during the summer months are different. The bottom is white instead of black and the upper parts are spotted with gray and gold. Their eyes are large but dark. They have short bills and long, gray to black legs. The Kolea grows to be 11 inches tall. The Kolea can cover the distance from it's breeding grounds in Alaska to Hawaii in an amazing 2 days, averaging 60 mph. This little bird is my hero. I can barely make it to Alaska in two days by airplane.

Is there any subject you cant shoot??? You're multi talented!! Amazing capture Dave, birds are the hardest subject, and this is so clear! The more I look at your work, the angrier I get at my own limitations screams and yells. I'll just have to try harder lol. Excellent portrait =)
